Mary Matalin is one of the most respected conservative strategists, authors and pundits in America, and this April she left the Republican Party to register as a Libertarian, but says she will still vote for the GOP nominee Donald Trump.  We discuss her motives for leaving the GOP, why she says it’s been a long time coming, and why she’s more inclined to vote for Trump over the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.  Plus I ask Mary Matalin how her mentor President George H.W. Bush and her husband James Carville took the news of her exit from the Republican Party.

If you enjoyed this interview, you can tune in to Mary Matalin's radio show Both Sides Now.  Find out more at www.BothSidesRadio.com.  You can also keep up with Mary at www.MaryMatalin.info.  Finally, I highly recommend Mary Matalin's and James Carville's most recent book Love & War: Twenty Years, Three Presidents, Two Daughters and One Louisiana Home.  Order it on Amazon or download the audio version for free through a special trial offer just for our listeners at www.audibletrial.com/kickasspolitics.

Chris Cantwell and Chris Rogers are the creators, show-runners, and executive producers of AMC's Halt and Catch Fire, and today they talk about the real stories and personalities that inspired them to create the fictional series about the personal computer revolution that came out of the Texas "Silicon Prairie" in the 1980's.

We discuss the constant tug of war between the programmers and the visionaries in the tech industry and which Steve they'd rather be (Wozniak or Jobs).  They hint at what we can expect in season 3 including moving the show's setting to Silicon Valley and a shift in focus from the PC boom to the birth of the internet.  Plus, our collective love of dysfunctional 80's robots.

Be sure to watch the 2-hour season premiere of Halt and Catch Fire at 9PM Eastern on Tuesday (8/23) on AMC.  For more information, visit www.AMC.com.  You can follow Chris Cantwell on Twitter at @ifyoucantwell and Chris Rogers at @CCR.

TV legend and witty raconteur Dick Cavett joins me for my 100th episode. Known as the “thinking man’s talk show host,” Dick Cavett shares stories from his 5 decades in television.  He discusses how he broke into show business, his long friendship with his personal idol Groucho Marx, his surprisingly chummy relationship with late-night rival Johnny Carson, his not so chummy relationship with the Nixon White House, and the time a guest actually died on air.  He reminisces about Muhammad Ali, Truman Capote, Jack Benny, Walter Winchell, Ed Sullivan and the night a young woman tried to seduce he and Marlon Brando into a threesome.

If you enjoyed my conversation with Dick Cavett, then order his book Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks
on Amazon or you can download the audio version of her book for free through a special trial offer just for our listeners at www.audibletrial.com/kickassnews.  You can follow Dick Cavett on Twitter at @TheDickCavett and visit his website at www.DickCavettShow.com for show clips, episode guides, and news from Dick Cavett.
